Since the experience is different for everyone, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly what should be labelled a “dental emergency.” The most common symptoms our emergency dentist treats in Oakville patients include:

  • Loose teeth
  • Toothaches
  • Bleeding gums
  • Cracked teeth
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Lost dental fillings or crowns

Although we try to include the most common types of dental emergencies on this page, there is no way to predict every emergency that may come through the door. If you are in doubt about an emerging dental condition — or worsening dental condition — the best thing to do is visit your dentist as soon as possible.

How to Identify a Severe Dental Emergency

Along with the common symptoms we’ve outlined above, there are telltale signs of severe dental emergencies that indicate the need for immediate care from our emergency dentist in Oakville:

  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • A dental infection that is causing difficulty breathing
  • And any other condition in which oral/dental health is in immediate risk

Situations to Avoid

If you believe you or another individual is experiencing a dental emergency, it’s important to keep in mind what not to do. Remember, any trip to the emergency room that isn’t by definition an emergency will likely result in an expensive medical bill.

  • Do not visit the ER for a toothache, as it is not considered a medical emergency requiring urgent care.
  • Don’t delay in the case of an emergency. If you believe you or a member of your family is experiencing a dental emergency at any time of the day or night, contact Oakville Dental Office immediately. Any and all emergencies need to be addressed in rapid fashion to prevent the problem from becoming worse.

If you have any questions about the nature of a medical emergency, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll be happy to provide the information you need.

Knocked Out Tooth or Teeth

*Should a tooth ever be knocked out, keep it in a saline solution such as contact lens solution to ensure it remains alive before it’s re-implanted. If you don’t have saline solution, you can also bring it to us in a glass of milk, or in a sterile napkin wetted with your own saliva.
